On the sidelines of the opening of the launch event of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2018, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the UN headquarters.
Thus, the Republic of Tajikistan joined the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Miguel de Serpa Soares, the Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel accompanied President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon during the signing ceremony.
The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 13, 2006. Following ratification by the 20 parties, it came into force on May 3rd, 2008.
As of October 2017, it has 160 signatories and 175 parties, which includes 172 states and the European Union.
